God says…” Under Compulsion” our spouses will be set FREE! By Paula Sherman
Exodus 6:1 (NASB) – The Lord said to Moses, ” now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh: for under compulsion he will let them go, and under compulsion he will drive them out of his land.” In other words, the Lord was saying by choice or force, His will would be done and we all know how that story ended.. Hallelujah!
It didn’t matter what Pharaoh wanted. He honestly thought he was in charge. Pharaoh had no intention, desire or a will to let the Israelites go; he sure thought his plan would prevail. But God had a plan, and His desire and His will was for them to be set free. Doesn’t that sound like our spouses? Many of our spouses have no intention, desire or a will to return to God and their marriages. But God’s desire is to set our spouses free and for our marriages to be restored. Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18)and He is a restorer of the breach(Isaiah 58:12).
God says “enough is enough” and we read what He said to Moses in the above verse from Exodus 6. Under compulsion (Webster’s meaning – a force or agency that compels, an irresistible impulse to perform) he will drive them out of his land. Pharaoh was going to be forced to do something against his own will. So much for the “free-will theory.” God sends a series of plagues that breaks Pharaoh’s will and the Israelites are set free. You can imagine Pharaoh couldn’t believe what was happening! Our spouses won’t be able to explain why they are running back to God; why they are back home with their spouses; why they are back leading their family in worship and sharing the good news of Jesus!
Our beloved spouses believe they are in control, and for a season God will allow them to believe their own lie (2 Thessalonians 2:11). I truly believe that God by divine design will orchestrate a plan that will cause our spouses to relinquish their ungodly wills and force them to turn around. He did that for me and I know He’ll do the same for them
Our Lord God is the “agent” that will compel them. Under HIS mighty hand, He will turn the course they are on and bring them back to right relationship with Him (Jeremiah 32:40(b))…He will do it for their own good and for the good of their children after them (Jeremiah 32:39).
I don’t know about you, but reading that has brought solace to my soul and strengthen my faith and trust in my Lord God. We, like the Israelites, are in covenant relationship with him. So how much more will the Lord do for us?
