God Definitely Speaks to us Through Nature
One of our fellowship members frequently shares with us what the Lord reveals to her through nature, and when I was talking to her today, she said she thought it might be nonsense for her to post stuff like that. Well, I assured her that nothing could be farther from the truth! But she doesn’t have to take my word on that, because one of the most important passages of scripture to all of us, especially as we stand for our marriages, makes that very clear. Under the heading “Do Not Worry”, Matthew 6:25-34 says:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
And Romans 1:20 even says For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. And reading that in context (Romans 1:18-32), it’s easy to see why it’s so important NOT to ignore the things God reveals to us through nature! So Maria, thank you for pointing out to us the wonderful things God reveals to us through nature, and for your permission to share it here so others may be blessed and encouraged too!
For the past few days, I have again been watching some zebra finches by the river, as they stand on tiny, dry and very fragile stems of grass or twigs. To me those twigs looked very dangerous and if the birds were to ask me, I would suggest they move somewhere else, onto sturdier bushes. Yet, they never asked me. They just look very confident in what they are doing; taking the risks of falling, yet they never even anticipate the fall. And if they did fall, they would just brush off their beautiful feathers and move on to another dry, fragile twig. How much I can learn from these birds. We are standing on those fragile twigs, waiting and anticipating, but unlike the birds, are worried that we may fall. What if the branch breaks? And just like them, our onlookers are worried about us and suggest we move to sturdier twigs where safety is so obvious. Yet the birds knew they were safe, because they trust the one who cares for them and they never even entertain the thought of being worried. And here is an old hymn that came to my mind.
“Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by Love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God.”
As I told Maria, she is indeed a woman after my own heart and I look forward to more posts from her about how God speaks to her through nature. One of my favorite Seeds Of Faith posts, God’s Glorious Creation, from March 2006, is about how the Lord showed me how He CAN and WILL revive what appear to be dead marriages the same way He revives what appear to be dead gardens every spring. So when we take the time to look, as Maria so obviously does, we can be very blessed and encouraged by how God speaks to us through nature!
I agree with Linda, Maria! Please keep sharing ALL of the wonderful ways that God speaks to you! It’s wonderful to see and hear God in everything! Nature and sight are both gifts from God and when He takes the opportunity to blend the two together to show us something marvelous and speak to us in a way we may need to hear today, it is a TRUE gift from God!
Linda, what a wonderful way you described the signs of nature. Thank you so much for taking time from your very busy schedule to write this post. You are an avid gardener and the marriage restoration reminds me of what you said about the dead gardens in the spring. I think our giants, Diane, Thursa, Alex and Amy and many more soon (actually I claim all of us), encounter a lot of work. Just think of all the dead leaves, raking, digging, hoeing, pruning the dead rose bushes etc. It sounds like a lot of hard work to me. I bet you come in your house exhausted, tired and sweaty every day, and for a long time you can’t see any results, except that it looks tidier than when you started. But then when you look again in the summer, it’s hard to believe it’s the same garden. You can sit and relax then, and admire it; not only you, but all your visitors and passers by. You feel so pleased and God is pleased too, because you believed in something you saw in advance that was going to be beautiful. And so it is with our marriages. We have to dig, rake, prune and put in a lot of hard work, but in the end its worthwhile. Thank you again, Linda, for reminding us that all the work we put in will resemble God’s beautiful garden in the end. Relatives and those around us are going to admire His wonderful work in us. Praise His wonderful name, His love and His patience with us.
I agree, Maria. God has created us all to be unique and He speaks to all of us in different ways and at different times. I enjoy how God speaks to you and it teaches me to look for God all around me as well. Keep them coming. God is so pleased when we share and show Him in our lives. Be encouraged, Diane
