Pride WILL Stop Marriage Restoration Dead In Its Tracks!

This morning one of our regular visitors to the site sent me a link to an awesome message from Beth More, which I know everyone standing for marriage restoration REALLY, REALLY needs to hear! So thanks Daphne!

Beth Moore is a regular guest every Wednesday on the Life Today program with James and Betty Robison, and she’s currently doing a series called “A Fight Worth Having”. The message today was part 3 of that series, and it’s VERY powerful and something all of us need to listen to and put into practice as we stand for the restoration of our marriages. It’s definitely one of those “ouch” messages though, but sometimes that’s exactly what we need to hear.

The basic text of her message comes from 1 Peter 5:5-7, which says Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

What a powerful, yet scary message, because most of us are guilty of letting our pride get the best of us from time to time. But we probably don’t consider how deadly a sin that is, because we don’t realize that it actually causes the Lord to OPPOSE us! I quite often remember and remind myself and other ladies of Proverbs 29:23, which says A man’s pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor. And while that’s a good thing to remember, it’s not nearly as powerful as this passage, so this is something I’m not likely to ever forget again! BUT the good news is that when we DO humble ourselves UNDER the mighty hand of God, HE WILL lift us up in DUE time! There’s that time thing again! So perhaps another important lesson to take from this message is that every time we mumble, grumble and complain about the time…how long it’s taking…and how tired we’re getting, we are forgetting to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, and forgetting to cast all of our anxieties on Him! And since that’s why the Israelites had to spend an extra 40 years in the wilderness, this is DEFINITELY a message we need to get!

Another very important point Beth makes in this message which I know applies to just about all of us is how we MISUSE the word of God by trying to use it AGAINST our husbands. She makes her point about that most effectively too, so that’s another lesson none of us are likely to forget again either.
