Foundation for Marriage Restoration

We believe that marriage restoration or reconciliation is very unlikely without a strong foundation on which to stand, which is why participation in the FAM Fellowship is based on our faith in God and acceptance of the Christian principles of marriage, divorce and remarriage as taught in the Bible, which we believe is the inspired and infallible Word of God.

And we don’t believe it is possible to live by these principles without knowing Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. We also know that many people will visit our site who are not “born again” Christians, which is why we feel it is essential to provide an opportunity to understand what it means to be a Christian. Since it was during the most difficult times of our lives that many of us turned to God for help and found Jesus, we understand that you may be at such a point in your life now, and we want to help. Believing the following verses of scripture from the Bible is essential to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Romans 1:20-21

For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 6:23

Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’. John 14:6

That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Romans 10:9-10

Simply put, there is no excuse for not recognizing and understanding who God is and that we are all hopeless and lost without Him. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, and the punishment for our sin is death, which destines us to Hell. Jesus is the only way to be saved and avoid Hell; and He loved us so much that He died to pay for our sins to save us and give us abundant life. And if we believe that in our heart and confess it with our mouth, and make Jesus Lord of our life, we will not perish, but have everlasting life. All of the FAM principles and all of our support and encouragement are based on having this relationship with Jesus, because we don’t believe it’s possible to have the right relationship with our spouses until we have the right relationship with Him. If you accept the truth of these scriptures, and sincerely acknowledge that you are a sinner and you want to repent, which means turning away from the sin in your life, and you want to receive Jesus’ gift of forgiveness and abundant and eternal life, and give your life to Him, then you can make Him the Lord of your life and accept Him as your Savior by praying the following prayer.

God, I know I’m a sinner and that my sins should be punished by death, but please forgive me and help me turn from the sin in my life. I believe your son, Jesus Christ, loved me so much that He died on the cross for my sins, and that He was raised from the dead, and is alive now and hears my prayer. Jesus, please come into my heart and be the Lord of my life forever. Please help me to be obedient and follow Your will, because I’m giving my life to you, and from now on, I’m yours. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer and sincerely meant it in your heart, we believe you are now “saved” and a “born again” Christian. You will never regret making this decision and it is our most sincere prayer that the Lord will always bless and keep you and create in you an awesome testimony that will be used to encourage others and lead many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ! There are a few things you need to do now to cultivate and maintain your growth as a Christian, and to make sure you get the support and encouragement you need, because you are a “baby” in Christ, having just been “born again.” First, tell someone else about your new faith in Jesus Christ and that you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, because God expects you to acknowledge that before others. Then as an act of surrender and in obedience to Jesus, you should be baptized, which represents the burial of your old life and the resurrection of your new life in Christ.

“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.” Matthew 10:32-33

Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:15-17

Then, we can’t possibly stress enough how important it is for you to set aside quality time for God every day of your life. That means developing the habit of setting aside a quiet time for prayer, and time to read and study His Word every day. Ask Him to increase your faith and to help you understand the Bible as you read it, because that is vitally important to your growth and walk as a Christian. An excellent online tool for reading and studying the Bible is available at www.BibleGateway.com. There are also some excellent preachers and teachers available on television and radio, or on the internet; such as Dr. Charles Stanley, where you can watch or listen to daily television and radio broadcasts, as well as a host of archived broadcasts. And there are many daily devotionals and messages of hope and encouragement that you can sign up to receive by email; such as Small Straws, by Marsha Burns and Coffee Break, by Lorraine Azell.

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:9-13

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Matthew 4:4

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

Fellowship with other Christians is very important too, so you need to find a local, Bible believing church where you can worship and cultivate a group of Christian friends to help encourage and support you as you begin to discover your new identity in Christ.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25

If you have just made Jesus your Lord and Savior, it’s the best decision you will ever make! So we are pleased and honored to welcome you to the family of God and pray that the Lord will always bless and keep you and your family! Please send us an email to let us know about your decision so we can rejoice with you and cover you in prayer! Then, if you are seeking the restoration of your marriage; we know how important it is to associate with others who believe in the biblical principles of marriage, divorce and remarriage, because it’s not a popular stand these days, even among Christians or Christian leaders. And it will be VERY difficult to take such a courageous and obedient stand without the support and encouragement of like minded Christians, which is why we hope you will prayerfully consider joining the FAM Fellowship. May God’s very best be yours!
